My husband deserves a medal. Well, several medals really. But today we’ll focus on the, “I somehow managed to get beautiful pics of my pregnant wife even though I have no idea how to use a camera and cannot envision the shots that she had in her mind” medal.
I had it all planned out. We would go to a spot with great light near our home. I did my hair and makeup…had my two outfits all ready to go. I actually drew lovely stick figure depictions of the shots I wanted complete with a “V” or “H” to signify a vertical or horizontal image. Snacks were packed for Jane. All I needed to do is set the camera up for proper exposure, hand it over to my husband, and VOILA!
But then we got out of the car and Jane started asking where the babies were. We were at the park, so why were there no babies for her to play with? Oh dear. We moved forward and I found a spot close to the car that would work for one of my more simple stick figure depictions. I explained my vision to Shai, set the camera up, and handed it over. Apparently he thought that the tight/vertical shot I had desired would look better as a horizontal/full body image. Uh oh.
So, things didn’t really go as planned. I still have all of these amazing images in my mind that I may never be physically a part of. But that’s okay. My husband tried really hard and Jane played with leaves by herself for as long as she possibly could. And when she didn’t want to be ignored anymore, she came to me and said, “mommy hold”. So I held her and it was the best decision ever.
In general I like to keep photos as vibrant and natural looking as possible – this means minimal editing and artificial color casting. But I just felt that this photo called for a little something extra.
I have a very hard time being serious in front of the camera. Thankfully I had Jane to keep my eye busy : )
Thank you Shai for helping me to capture this special time…for being patient with me when I needed to be more patient with you, for following my directions as best you could, and for helping us to have fun. I love that we created these photos together. You’re the best.
Can’t wait to meet our little girl.
